The default settings only give attention to common junk files and locations, so you’re unlikely to lose information that is essential you change these.

The drum pads are a little too hard for my liking, I prefer a softer feel. They feel the same as the ones on the M-Audio Axiom v1. Some people prefer hard pads though, so really it's down to personal preference. Even though I prefer softer pads, I can live with the ones on the Nocturn. They perform well and it's easy to adjust their sensitivity in the automap software.
The speed dial is very handy. I like it a lot more than I thought I would. Tap it once, then use the dial to quickly scroll up and down through the instrument's presets. No need to open a browser window where you'd use your keyboard/mouse to navigate. It's a pity Novation didn't keep the speed dial on their later keyboards.
(it's worth noting that one of the older Automap releases had a bug that rendered the speed dial inoperable, so if you run into this problem just update Automap to a newer version).
Updating the Nocturn or returning it to factory settings is a snap. Just open automap, click the button and switch the Nocturn off/on when prompted. It's that simple. You just sit back and watch the pretty lights on the Nocturn. It takes around 5 minutes for the process to run its course. I have no idea why the previous reviewer had problems.
Conclusion: The Nocturn is a great controller. It feels really nice and it keeps your hands away from your keyboard and mouse more than any midi controller I've owned before. The speed dial is a very useful addition and the lights make the controller easy to use even in a pitch black room.
